Nigeria: Twin suicide bombings kill dozens

At least 13 people were killed and more than 50 wounded in a dual suicide bomb attack at a busy morning market in northeast Nigeria, according to local sources.

Iraq: Truck bomb kills at least 23

Kirkuk, Iraq – At least 23 people were killed and 60 wounded in the North of the country.

A suicide bomber set off a truck bomb near a crowded marketplace in the northern Iraqi town of Tuz Khurmatu, police and medical sources said on Tuesday.

An interior ministry spokesman said a “violent explosion” took place near a vegetable market in the town, south of Kirkuk, but did not immediately provide casualty figures.

Most of the casualties were civilians, the police and medical sources told Reuters.

The death toll was expected to rise because many of the wounded were in critical condition.

The bombing took place in a mainly Shi’ite Turkmen area.

Nigeria violence: Suicide bombers kill 10 in Maiduguri

Four suicide bombers have killed at least 10 people and wounded many others in the north-eastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri,  the home of the Boko Haram extremist insurgency.

The attackers, who included women, detonated their explosives in the Muna district, police said.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the latest attack.

However, the Islamist militant group Boko Haram continues to carry out suicide attacks in Maiduguri and elsewhere.

The group often uses female or child bombers, some who had been abducted.
